A woman was killed and a man critically injured after their minivan collided with a truck Thursday morning in suburban Deer Park.
The crash happened about 9:35 a.m. on Route 12 near Deer Park Boulevard, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
A Peterbilt Truck, carrying a partial load of gravel, was traveling south in the outside lane of traffic when a Chevrolet Venture Minivan attempted to make a right turn from the inside lane, crossing directly in front of the truck, the sheriff’s office said.
The Peterbilt struck the Chevrolet as it turned, causing the Chevrolet to hit a light pole before coming to a stop, the sheriff’s office said.
To avoid hitting the Chevrolet a second time, the driver of the Peterbilt swerved and sideswiped a Infiniti SUV heading south, the sheriff’s office said.
A 35-year-old woman riding in the Chevrolet was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington where she was later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office.
The Lake County Coroner’s office identified her as Byronnise Clark of Champaign. An autopsy said she died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash.
The Chevrolet’s driver, a 36-year-old man, remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 65-year-old man driving the Peterbilt truck was hospitalized with minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the Infiniti was not injured.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit continues to investigate the incident.
