A TV Asahi Corp. staff member was injured outside the venue for a party held in defiance of in-house rules to prevent infection with the novel coronavirus, the company announced on Tuesday.
According to TV Asahi, 10 staff members held the party Sunday night at a karaoke parlor to celebrate the conclusion of their work on programs covering the Tokyo Olympics. The participants drank alcoholic beverages from that evening to the pre-dawn hours on Monday.
One of the 10 accidentally fell and was injured outside the karaoke parlor, and had to be hospitalized.
TV Asahi's public relations department said the company prohibits its employees from attending drinking parties, in a bid to prevent infections with the novel coronavirus.
A company official said: "It's very regrettable that their actions lacked self-awareness, even though they're in a position to call on people to refrain from going out for nonessential purposes. We deeply regret this."
