A person was released from custody after a 27-year-old man was stabbed to death Monday during an argument on the South Side, police said Wednesday.
Ellis Taylor, Sr., and another person were inside a car in an alley in the 400 block of East 88th Street about 10:20 a.m. when they began arguing and started fighting, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The other person took out a knife and stabbed Taylor in his torso, authorities said. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead.
An autopsy released Tuesday found Taylor died of a stab wound to his chest, the medical examiner’s office said.
Police arrested someone shortly after the incident, but they were released without charges, police said .
A police spokesperson could not say why they were released, but a police source said the Cook County state’s attorney’s office declined to press charges.
A spokesperson for the state’s attorney’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.
