A woman has been released from custody after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday during an argument in Garfield Park on the West Side.

Joseph Dix was arguing with a female in an apartment about 11:17 p.m. near South Whipple Street, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The altercation became physical, and he was stabbed in the chest.

Dix, of Garfield Park, was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said. A female was arrested at the scene.

Cook County prosecutors declined charges against the woman, citing self-defense, according to a law enforcement source.
