A man was found dead after a fire broke out in a home in East Garfield Park on the West Side Sunday morning.

Authorities responded around 9:30 a.m. to the residence in the 2600 block of West Monroe Street and found the 53-year-old man unresponsive inside, Chicago police and fire officials said.

He was brought to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. A firefighter was taken to the same hospital as a precaution after suffering shortness of breath.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the fatality.

Officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
