July 21--One man was killed and seven people were wounded in shootings since Monday evening, police said.
A 36-year-old man was fatally shot at about 11 p.m. Monday in the Rogers Park neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.
He was standing on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of North Rogers Avenue when several me walked up and fired shots, Alfaro said. The man was hit in the lower back and the left shoulder.
He was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 11:40 p.m., officials said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Kevin Davis, with an unknown home address.
The most recent nonfatal shooting was in the Portage Park neighborhood, where about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was driving on Irving Park Road near North Major Avenue and someone in a passing car shot him, Alfaro said.
He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with a graze wound to his right cheek and a gunshot wound to the right shoulder, according to police.
In other shootings:
--At about 11:30 p.m. Monday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the left leg in the Eden Green neighborhood on the Far South Side, Alfaro said. He was standing on the sidewalk in the 300 block of East 132nd Place when a red SUV drove up and someone inside fired shots, according to Alfaro.He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.
--At about 10:40 p.m. Monday, a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were wounded in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, police said. They were on a front porch in the 8400 block of South Loomis Street when shots were fired from a passing dark-colored sedan, said Alfaro.
The 16-year-old was shot in the left ankle and the 20-year-old was hit in the right bicep. Both were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where their conditions stabilized.
--Also at 10:40 p.m. Monday, a 19-year-old man was shot in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, police said. He was on the sidewalk in the 6200 block of South Evans Avenue when someone fired shots from a passing dark-colored van, Alfaro said. He was struck in the right buttock and left thigh. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
--At about 8:10 p.m. in the West Town neighborhood on the West Side, a 21-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 2500 block of West Huron Street when two males walked up and began shooting in his direction, according to Alfaro. He was struck in the lower back and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
--About two hours earlier, a 30-year-old man was shot in the hand in the 2800 block of West Cortland Street in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Alfaro said. He took himself to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. Police said he was being uncooperative.
