The fatal shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. when Jamar Jackson, 22, was hit by gunfire in East Chatham, police said.

Jackson was in the 7900 block of South Ellis Avenue when a gray sedan drove past and someone inside fired shots.

He was hit in the head, buttocks and right calf and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. Police initially said the man was 25 years old.

At about 4:30 p.m., the 14-year-old was shot in the chest in an apparent drive-by shooting in the 2700 block of East 89th Street Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The shooting took place near Baker College Prep and Bowen High School, which are next to each other.
