2 dead, 7 wounded in Chicago shootings Monday

May 10--Two men were fatally shot in East Garfield Park, among at least nine people wounded in shootings in Chicago on Monday, police said.

The men, 26 and 35, were on the street in the 3000 block of West Jackson Boulevard when an attacker came up and opened fire about 11:50 a.m., said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

They were both taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The older man was identified as Michael Cunningham, of the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street. He was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. at Stroger, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Other shootings:

--In the West Rogers Park neighborhood, an 18-year-old man was discovered in the 6300 block of North Maplewood Avenue about 8:20 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the back, police said. The man was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition.

--At 6:45 p.m., two teenagers were shot in an apparently domestic-related incident in the 7600 block of South Emerald Avenue in Gresham, police said. An 18-year-old man was shot in the head, and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the hip.

Details about the shooting were not immediately available.

Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The man was in critical condition, and the boy's condition was stabilized.

--About 1:40 p.m., three men were shot in the 1200 block of North Keeler Avenue, near West Crystal Street, in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood.

A 58-year-old man was wounded in the lower back, and a 34-year-old man was hit in the buttocks. They were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized. A 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left side and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The three were outside when an attacker in a burgundy van opened fire and drove off east.

--About 12:35 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood. He was in the 3000 block of West 66th Street when he was hit in the hip in an apparent drive-by. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
