Dec. 26--Two people are dead and at least eight others have been wounded in separate shootings since Friday morning in Chicago, police said.
About 12:20 p.m., a 20-year-old man was killed in the 700 block of West 71st Street in Englewood, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found the man with a gunshot wound to the side. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, Sedevic said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Angelo Frazier of the 600 block of Sullivan Lane in University Park. He was pronounced dead at 12:24 p.m.
At 8:30 a.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 5500 block of West Monroe Street in the South Austin neighborhood, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer.
He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police are conducting a death investigation; it has not yet been determined whether the shooting was a homicide.
The most recent shooting was at 6 a.m. Saturday in the city's West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of North Pulaski Road. Preliminary information stated an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, and was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 10:40 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was shot in South Austin, Greer said.
She was a passenger in a vehicle in the 4800 block of West Lake Street when people fired shots and she was hit in the back. The driver of the vehicle took her to West Suburban Medical Center, and her condition was stabilized.
About 9:10 p.m., a male whose age was not immediately available was shot in Park Manor, Greer said, citing preliminary information.
He told police he was in the 7100 block of South King Drive when he was grazed in the neck. He took himself to Jackson Park Hospital. No information was immediately available about his condition or the circumstances of the shooting.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday, a 37-year-old man walking with a group in the 1600 block of North Leclaire Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood was shot in his left thigh when a person got out of a vehicle and began firing, according to police.
The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
In the Hermosa neighborhood, a 45-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg about 4:40 p.m., said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman. After the shooting in the 2000 block of North Keystone Avenue, the man was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 3:40 p.m., a 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the city's South Shore neighborhood, Sweeney said.
That shooting happened on the 1600 block of East 70th Street.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Sweeney said.
About 4:30 p.m., a man was shot in the city's Gage Park neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened in the 3100 block of West 58th Street. According to preliminary information, a woman shot the man in the stomach area. The woman was taken into custody, police said.
About 12:40 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot on the West Side in the city's Austin neighborhood, Sedevic said.
The victim told officers he was shot in the 5800 block of West Wabansia Avenue. He then drove himself to the 1300 block of North Mason Avenue where he flagged down a passer-by who called 911, said Sedevic.
The man suffered wounds to the arm and torso, and was taken to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood where his condition was stabilized, Sedevic said.
