March 03--A 17-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured since Monday evening in separate shootings in the South Deering, Englewood and Gage Park neighborhoods, officials said.
Paramedics were called about 7:15 p.m. to the 10500 block of South Oglesby Avenue in South Deering on the Far South Side, said Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Frank Velez.
According to the Cook County medical examiner's office, the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:47 p.m. He was later identified as Deonte M. Hoard, of the block in which he was killed, according to the medical examiner's office.
Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said the 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, which was later ruled his cause of death after an autopsy by the medical examiner's office. Another victim, a 23-year-old man, was grazed in the head by a gunshot.
Police said the 17-year-old and the 23-year-old were standing on the corner of 106th Street and Oglesby when a black SUV pulled up and someone inside the vehicle fired shots.
Zala said police were listing the crime scene location as the 10600 block of South Yates Avenue.
The older man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, Velez said.
In the latest shooting, a 28-year-old woman was hurt when she was shot around 12:35 a.m. in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, said News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
The woman told police she was walking on a sidewalk in the 2700 block of West 55th Street with her brother when two attackers emerged from a gangway and one of them fired shots, police said. The woman and her brother ran away from the attackers, according to police.
The woman suffered a graze wound to her right ear and her brother dropped her off at Holy Cross Hospital, where she is listed in good condition, Alfaro said.
Earlier, a 23-year-old man was in a serious but stable condition after a shooting around 11:05 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.
The man told police he was in an alley in the 1000 block of West Marquette Road with three male friends who came over to his residence to help him move a TV, police said. A verbal argument occured, and one of the man's friends pulled out a small caliber handgun and fired shots, police said.
The 23-year-old was struck in the forehead but the bullet did not break through the bone, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.
At the crime scene, police blocked off part of the sidewalk and intersection at Carpenter Street and Marquette Road.
As of early Tuesday morning, no one was in custody as a result of the shootings.
