1 shot dead, 3 wounded while sitting in parked car in Gage Park

April 20--A man was killed and three others were wounded in a shooting in Gage Park overnight, among eight people hit by gunfire across Chicago since Tuesday evening, police said.

The four were in a parked car in the 2700 block of West 53rd Street about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday when someone fired from a red minivan, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the chest and pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as Jason Napoles of the 2500 block of South Christiana Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Another 18-year-old man was shot in the back and went to Mount Sinai Hospital. A 19-year-old man wounded in the arms and a third 18-year-old man, also shot in the back, went to Stroger Hospital. The conditions of all three surviving men were stabilized.

In other shootings:

--At about 7:15 a.m., officers responding to the 9500 block of South Green Street found a man in his 40s or 50s with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to preliminary information from police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, police said

--At 7:05 a.m., 24-year-old man was shot in Lawndale. He was on the corner of 13th Street and Christiana Avenue when he was shot in the upper left leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

--About 3 a.m. Wednesday, a 33-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood, police said. He was outside in the 6300 block of South Richmond Street when a vehicle drove up and someone inside fired, hitting him in the arm. He went to Mount Sinai, and his condition was stabilized.

--At 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West 95th Street, a 30-year-old man was shot in the abdomen. He was walking on the sidewalk when someone walked up and fired. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center, and his condition was stabilized.

--About 10 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in Belmont Central, Zala said. He was in the 2400 block of North McVicker Avenue when he was shot in the back, abdomen and arm. He went to Loyola University Medical Center in fair condition.

--At 6:25 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. He was in the 1100 block of North California Avenue when he was shot in the back, Zala said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
