1 dead, 2 others injured after vehicle crashes into Calumet City bus stop

A person was killed and two others injured after a vehicle crashed into a bus stop Thursday in suburban Calumet City.

The vehicle drove off the road about 2 p.m. at the intersection of Sibley Boulevard and Torrence Avenue, hitting two people who were at a bus stop, Calumet City police said in a statement.

The vehicle then traveled into a nearby parking lot and hit a construction worker, police said.

One of the pedestrians who was struck at the bus stop was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other two people who were hit were taken to a hospital for their injuries.

Calumet City police and the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
