1,811 new Covid cases, 24 more deaths

There were 24 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,811 new cases admitted to hospitals on Sunday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Monday.

This compared with the 22 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,004 new cases admitted to hospitals on Saturday and reported on Sunday.

As of midnight Sunday, a total of 24,076 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 24,557 the previous day). Of those in hospital, 786 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (up from 772) and 349 dependent on ventilators (down from 352).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,234 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Of the 1,811 new cases admitted to hospital over the 24 hours, there were 1,809 cases in the general population and two imported cases.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,546,854 Covid-19 cases, including 2,323,419 this year, with 4,491,919 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,859 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 9,161 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 401,793 in 24 hours to 560.69 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 555 to 6.37 million.

The United States had the most cases at 90.34 million, up 23,939, and the most deaths at 1.04 million, up 10.
