1,773 new Covid inpatients, 30 more deaths

There were 30 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,773 new patients admitted to hospitals on Saturday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Sunday.

This compared with 35 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,140 patients on Friday, as reported on Saturday.

As of 11.59pm Saturday, a total of 20,958 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 21,791 the previous day), including 10,853 in hospitals (down from 11,157). Of the remainder, 232 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 227) and 9,795 in home/community isolation (down from 10,324), according to the Department of Disease Control.

Of those in hospitals, 927 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 912), including 482 dependent on ventilators (unchanged).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,576 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Among 1,773 new Covid-19 patients over the past 24 hours, there were 1,771 cases in the general population and two among prison inmates.

The 30 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from 49 to 96 years and included a Chinese national.

Bangkok logged two new deaths and there were eight new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Pathum Thani (2), Nonthaburi (2) and Samut Prakan (4).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had nine new deaths - three in Ayutthaya, two each in Chon Buri and Nakhon Nayok and one each in Nakhon Sawan and Sing Buri.

The North reported two new deaths in Phitsanulok and Phitchit.

The Northeast saw four new fatalities in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Suin and Yasothon.

The South had five new deaths in Nakhon Si Thammarat (2), Trang (2) and Songkhla (1).

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,620,425 Covid-19 cases, including 2,396,990 this year, with 4,567,639 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 31,828 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,130 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 577,939 in 24 hours to 594.69 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,277 to 6.45 million.

The United States had the most cases at 94.68 million, up 12,123, and the most deaths at 1.06 million, up 31.
