1,735 new positive coronavirus cases in Scotland overnight as no new deaths announced

The Scottish Government has confirmed there have been no new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures announced on Sunday afternoon reveal a further 1,735 positive cases of the virus have been confirmed overnight.

511 people are currently in hospital and 46 are currently in intensive care units.

325,335 Scots have now caught coronavirus since the start of the pandemic with 7,796 deaths recorded.

3,976,022 people have now had their first dose of the vaccine with 2,966,054 having had their second.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has performed a spectacular u-turn just hours after it was announced he had been identified as a ‘close contact’ with a positive case.

The Prime Minister was notified by the app with Downing Street initially saying he would not need to self-isolate as he was taking part in a pilot project.

But just two hours and 42 minutes after it was announced, the Tory leader’s team said he and chancellor Rishi Sunak will be going into quarantine.

The duo were both ‘pinged’ by Test and Trace after having a meeting with Health Secretary Sajid Javid who has tested positive for the virus.
