£1.5k clean-up after 'huge' graffiti tags found along canal

Around 40 tags of graffiti found in Nottingham will cost more than £1,000 to clean up.

The incident came to light a couple of days ago when Nottingham City Council street scene officers walked along Nottingham Canal to investigate.

Around 40 separate graffiti tags were discovered - the writing of an artist's name.

The graffiti is being cleaned and the final cost is likely to be about £1,500.

One council official tweeted that the authority's graffiti team had tackled some "huge tags" along the canal from the Jury's Inn to the Castle Marina Retail Park over the past two days.

"Graffiti is unsightly and costly to remove, meaning we have less time to work on other neighbourhood issues," the tweet read.

In January, the council received 181 reports for graffiti and flyposting.

Graffiti can be reported to the council by calling 0115 915 2020 or visiting the authority's website.
