€1.4 million worth of cocaine seized from fridge at Dublin Port

€1.4 million worth of cocaine was seized at Dublin Port yesterday as part of an investigation into organised crime.

The massive sting happened when officers stopped and searched a car coming in.

20kgs worth of cocaine was found in a fridge in the car with the help of Laddie the Customs Dog.

A 22-year-old man was arrested and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Yesterday's sting was carried out by Revenue Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Wicklow/Wexford Garda Divisions.

A garda spokesman said: "One male aged 22 years was arrested in relation to drug trafficking offences. He is currently being detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

"The investigation is ongoing."

A revenue spokeswoman said: "Yesterday (22/1/2022), in an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized 20 kgs of cocaine with an estimated value of €1.4 million at Dublin Port.

"The illegal drugs were found, with the assistance of detector dog Laddie, concealed in a refrigeration unit of a vehicle that was stopped and searched.

"This operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting transnational organised crime and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
