Saudi Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali. SPA

The Saudi Health Ministry said Thursday that the total number of diagnosed cases of the new coronavirus in the Kingdom has reached 22,753 after 1,351 tested positive in the past 24 hours.

Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali said in his weekly briefing that 3,163 people have so far recovered.

He also announced that the death toll from the COVID-19 disease increased by five in the past 24 hours to 162.

Saudi Arabia will allow entry into and exit from Qatif province starting Thursday, the state news agency reported citing a source within the interior ministry.

The source added that this comes as the result of Saudi Arabia's efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Qatif was under lockdown since March 8 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
