1,300 houses left without power on New Year's Eve

More than 1,300 properties were left without power on New Year's Eve after a power cut.

At the peak of the outage, 1,395 people were cut off in Upper Saxondale.

Within half an hour, this was brought below 1,000 to 890 properties.

And as engineers worked into the evening, they managed to get more people back with power as just 23 still had no power at 9.45pm.

All properties were told to expect their power to be restored by 10.30pm.

A statement on the Western Power website said: "We are aware of this power cut incident which was raised at   8:54pm this evening   and our engineers are working to get the power returned as quickly as possible.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you."
