The owners of 1,300 unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, have registered their devices in the first week after the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) threatened to punish those who did not come forward.
According to NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith, users and owners of drones can register their devices through three channels: the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand; the headquarters of the NBTC and its 21 provincial offices, and police stations nationwide.
"The NBTC has not yet received the exact number of drones registered via police stations; the 1,300 applies to those registered through the NBTC's offices," he said.
Mr Takorn said users of non-registered drones are at risk of violating the existing Communication Radio Act which imposes a prison term of up to five years or fines of up to 100,000 baht or both.
