1,273 new Covid inpatients, 26 more deaths

The country registered 1,273 new patients admitted to hospitals and 26 more Covid-19 related fatalities on Sunday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Monday.

This compared with 1,769 patients and 27 deaths on Saturday.

All cases on Sunday were local infections

The 24-hour period saw 2,198 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

As of midnight Sunday, 16,603 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment, with 8,945 in hospitals and 7,436 in home/community isolation, according to the daily update posted by the Department of Disease Control. Of those in hospital, 760 were seriously ill with lung inflammation and 371 dependent on ventilators.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said the 26 people who died were aged from 47 to 102 years with an average age of 78. One was a British national and the rest were Thais.

Bangkok recorded five more deaths and there were four in adjacent provinces - two each in Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had five deaths - three in Chon Buri and one each in Lop Buri and Saraburi.

The North reported three deaths - two in Chiang Mai and one in Lamphun.

The Northeast saw five more coronoavirus-related fatalities -  two in Nakhon Ratchasima and one each in Chaiyaphum, Surin and Ubon Thani.

The South had four - three in Krabi and one in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Vaccinations continue, with 142.68 million doses administered as of Sunday. The government said 82.3% of the population has now received at least one dose of vaccine, 77.2% at least two shots and 45.6% at least one booster shot.

On Sunday 17,932 vaccine doses were administered - 1,662 as a first shot, 2,384 as a second shot and 13,886 as a booster.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,647,685 Covid-19 cases, including 2,424,250 cases this year, with 4,584,727 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,248 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,550 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 28,379 on April 1, 2022.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 456,630 in 24 hours to 606.01 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 890 to 6.48 million.
