£1,000 reward offered over 'sickening' arson attack on two Iceland delivery vans

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information about a crime spree which left two Iceland delivery vans in flames.

On the night the country went into lockdown (March 23-24), a string of antisocial behaviour and criminal damage acts were carried out in the Henbury and Southmead areas of Bristol.

The incidents culminated in the arson of supermarket delivery vans in Glencoyne Square, which Iceland's CEO Richard Walker described as 'sickening'.

Police also described the incident as 'reckless' and urged people who recorded the footage of antisocial behaviour to come forward.

Independent charity Crimestoppers has now made its own appeal and asked anyone with information to get in touch.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "On the night the country went into lockdown, groups of youths in balaclavas went on a crime spree in Southmead and Brentry stealing and causing damage, destruction, fear and intimidation.

"Cars were driven dangerously and even set alight but perhaps most alarming was the arson of two Iceland delivery vans in Glencoyne Square.

"Vans needed for vulnerable people to receive home food deliveries.

"If you have information you could eligible for a reward of up to £1,000.

"Please call our charity's UK contact centre on 0800 555 111 or use our untraceable online form via www.crimestoppers-uk.org."

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Mark Runacres previously said: “We are pleased to see since this incident that the number of antisocial behaviour acts in North Bristol has dropped.

“We remain committed to patrolling the streets and making sure people feel safe in their community.”

In a statement issued the day after the arson attack, Iceland said: “Police riot vans were called out and youths threw missiles at the police as they tried to disperse them.

“Later in the evening the two home delivery vans parked outside our Southmead store were set alight and the fire brigade attended to put out the fire.

“The vans will both have to be written off.

“We believe this to an act of mindless vandalism rather than a targeted attack on Iceland.”
