Feb. 14--Chicago Crime Stoppers along with the friends and family of a 25-year-old woman who was fatally wounded on Feb. 5 are asking for any information leading to the conviction of the shooter.
Several people were out Saturday morning in the city's Heart of Chicago neighborhood passing out flyers asking for the public's help.
Aaren O'Connor, was shot mortally wounded at about 6:38 p.m. Feb. 5, while sitting in her car in the 2000 block of West 21st Street. That night, O'Connor had been talking on the phone with her family in San Diego, according to police and relatives.
She was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m. on Feb. 7 after donating her organs at Stroger Hospital, officials said.
O'Connor's father, David O'Connor, said he was on the phone with his daughter when she was shot and said she was having trouble breathing.
"She didn't know where she was. She kept saying her head hurts, her head hurts," he said earlier. "I thought she was having a stroke or something."
According to the father, police said someone was being chased down the street, turned around and fired shots at the people who were pursuing him. One of the bullets struck his daughter, O'Connor said.
Her roommate found her in the car, and she was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead on Sunday.
Chicago Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible in her death.
Anyone with information about the slaying should contact police or call the anonymous tip hotline at 1-800-535-STOP.
