007 First Light will run at 60fps on PS5 Pro, IO Interactive confirms, and for $900 I'd sure hope it does

An antagonist with a regal mask in 007 First Light has an RPG slung over their shoulder.

IO Interactive has confirmed performance for the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of 007 First Light, while poking fun at some previous jabs about the game.

Last year, during the State of Play reveal for 007 First Light, most came away excited for the game, given that the Hitman developers take on James Bond seems like a perfect fit. But at the same time, many thought the game looked pretty rough, with some performance issues cropping up during the showcase, leading to online jabs about the game.

Now, just a couple of weeks out from launch, IO has eased fears about the game by releasing some PS5 Pro gameplay of the title over on Twitter, while simultaneously throwing a bit of shade back at online commenters. "'007 FPS' they said back in September... Pleased to showcase 007 First Light is running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro," the tweet read, with a nice two-minute clip of an action-packed sequence taking place in the game.

But of course, not everyone has a PS5 Pro. However, IO was quick to respond to its own Tweet, confirming that 007 First Light will run at 60fps on the base PS5, too, albeit in a performance mode, with a quality mode running at 30fps.

Granted, it's a shame this needs to be said. As one of the dummies who actually bought a PS5 Pro, I would sure hope I'll be getting at least 60fps from games on a machine that now costs just under a grand following the recent PS5 price hike, and honestly, I'd expect it from the base PS5 too. But with how often we're seeing games released in a sub-par state from typically solid companies (shoutout to Monster Hunter Wilds), it is good to know that one of my most anticipated games won't run poorly.

007 First Light's Bond is more "relatable" than Hitman's Agent 47, says developer: "Rather than an object of absurd fascination, he's an object of emotional relation."
