Woman stable after assault during home invasion

A WOMAN has been flown to hospital in Newcastle after she was assaulted during a home invasion.

Police were called to Beachfront Parade at St Huberts Island, near Woy Woy, about 11.30pm on Thursday.

Initial reports indicated the woman had been assaulted by an unknown man.

"Police were told the man repeatedly punched and kicked the woman before stealing personal items, including her handbag," police said in a statement.

Officers arriving on scene found the 47-year-old with a number of injuries.

She was flown to the John Hunter and remains in a stable condition.

Brisbane Water police established a crime scene and have begun making inquiries.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage is urged to come forward by calling 1800 333 000.
