US and Iran trade more strikes as supreme leader buried

  • Iran accused the US of striking railway bridges leading to Mashhad, where slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was buried on Thursday, as a fragile truce unravelled.
  • The US and Iran exchanged strikes for a second consecutive day, following US President Donald Trump's declaration that an interim peace deal was "over".
  • Iran claimed US forces also struck near a nuclear power plant in Bushehr, while US Central Command reported hitting approximately 90 Iranian military targets.
  • Traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz almost ceased, with Iran's top negotiator asserting the waterway would reopen solely under Iranian control.
  • Iranian officials reported 14 fatalities and 78 injuries from US attacks, prompting Iran to retaliate with strikes on Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain.
