In insane footage that’s probably blowing up your FYP, conservative media commentator (and typically vocal MAGA supporter) Tucker Carlson has clashed with US Senator Ted Cruz over US involvement in the Middle East.
Carlson sat down with Cruz for his YouTube series, which kicked off with the Republican senator claiming Iran needed an uprising before a question about Iran’s demographics sent the whole conversation straight off a cliff.
“How many people live in Iran, by the way?” Carlson asked, to which Cruz responded he doesn’t “know the population at all”.
Visibly stunned, Carlson asked: “You don’t know the population you seek to topple?”
Shrugging off the question and claiming he doesn’t “sit around memorising population tables”, Cruz asked why it’s “relevant” if the population is 80 million or 100 million.
Carlson pressed on, this time asking Cruz about the country’s ethnic composition.
“They are Persians, and predominantly Shia,” the senator said, prompting Carlson to jump in: “You don’t know anything about Iran!”

The cursed interaction only escalated when Cruz claimed “we are carrying out military strikes today”, which Carlson jumped on immediately. US officials have thus far denied launching direct attacks in support of Israel, so this was a pretty huge claim.
“You just said ‘we’ were,” Carlson responded.
The senator then clarified that he meant there was US support for Israeli action, rather than direct US action.
“This is high stakes. You’re a senator. If you’re saying the United States government is at war with Iran right now, people are listening,” the host remarked.
And people were listening, with this footage going viral almost instantly.
“My agreeing with Tucker Carlson was not on my 2025 bingo card,” one person commented.
“We’re not gonna rehab Tucker Carlson at all — he is irredeemable and contributed to the mess we are in now — but it is still more than enjoyable to watch him destroy his own,” another person added.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) after clips of the interview aired, Cruz accused Carlson releasing “a snippet playing a ‘gotcha’ on the population of Iran”.
The US has not ruled out involvement in the Middle East, with US President Donald Trump indicating on Friday morning (local time) that he will decide in “two weeks” if the US will directly attack Iran.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters that she had a message from Trump, explaining because “there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks”.
Just a day earlier, Trump and his administration kept up the ambiguity about their potential course of action.
“I may do it,” he told reporters on Thursday (local time), per ABC News. “I may not do it.”

On Friday, Australia made the call to suspend its embassy operations in Tehran, with Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirming that all Australian officials and their families are being told to leave Iran immediately.
“The Australian Government has directed the departure of all Australian officials and dependents and suspended operations at our Embassy in Tehran, based on advice about the deteriorating security environment in Iran,” she said a statement released this morning.
Wong also told a press conference she had spoken with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where they “agreed to continue to work together closely to commit to a path of peace” in the Middle East. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, she clarified the US has not requested Australian military support.
