Trump says he’s ‘okay’ with Iran playing at World Cup after Fifa chief’s confirmation

US president Donald Trump said on Thursday (30 April) that he’s “okay” with Iran participating in Fifa World Cup this year that the US is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico.

“If Gianni (Infantino) said it, I'm okay,” he said.

Dodging the question when a reporter asked what will happen if Iran wins the tournament, Trump said, “ Well, if they win, we'll have to worry about that.”

“I'm gonna have to worry about that one.”

Trump’s comments come after FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Thursday, Iran will be present at the tournament and playing in the US.

“ Look, you know what? Let them play well.”

Iran’s participation at the football competition this year had been questioned since the beginning of the war in the Middle East in late February.
