Trump mulls new US travel ban affecting 43 countries

  • President Donald Trump’s administration has drafted an expanded travel ban targeting 43 countries, dividing them into three tiers based on perceived security risks.
  • The "red" list comprises 11 countries whose citizens would be entirely banned, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.
  • The "orange" list includes 10 countries whose citizens would have to sit in-person interviews to obtain a visa. They include Belarus, Haiti, Myanmar and Russia.
  • The "yellow" list consists of 22 countries, primarily African nations, given 60 days to address security concerns or risk being moved to the red or orange lists.
  • This proposal comes two months after Trump signed an executive order directing officials to identify countries with deficient vetting procedures. The White House says no final decision has been made.
