Trump expected to drop $10B lawsuit against IRS

  • President Donald Trump is reportedly set to drop his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS in exchange for a fund to compensate allies allegedly targeted by the Biden administration, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
  • The lawsuit, filed in January, alleged the IRS failed to prevent the unauthorized release of his tax returns to The New York Times in 2019.
  • The proposed settlement includes a $1.7 billion taxpayer-funded commission to pay individuals and organizations associated with Trump, including about 1,600 people charged in relation to the January 6 Capitol attack.
  • A public apology from the IRS and the inclusion of two additional lawsuits against the Justice Department, totaling $230 million, are also part of the potential agreement.
  • Trump would not directly receive payments, but associated entities would not be explicitly barred, and he would have the power to remove members of the fund's commission, which would not be required to disclose its payment procedures.
