The father of a young woman murdered in far north Queensland has described the horror of finding his daughter's body, saying it was "something a father should never have to suffer".
Toyah Cordingley, 24, was killed while walking her dog along Wangetti Beach, north of Cairns, in October.
No-one has been arrested in relation to her death, although police have said they are looking at "several persons of interest".
Troy Cordingley said in a Facebook post today that he felt "lost and empty inside" at the loss of his daughter.
He said he found her body on the beach after four to five hours of searching on Sunday, October 21.
"Toyah is my only child. Finding her body has burnt an indelible image in my mind. It is something a father should never have to suffer," he said.
"I have other images permanently etched in my mind. Toyah used to spend a week with her mother and a week with Mary and I as she grew up.
"I remember our backyard full of laughing happy kids. I remember wonderful birthday parties and Christmases.
"She always said how lucky she was to have two mums and two dads.
"Toyah grew into a beautiful, caring young woman. We are all so proud of that.
"Toyah and I shared a love that only a father and daughter can understand.
"I feel lost and empty inside but will always have the wonderful memories of those 24 years … she should have had so many more.
"I want to thank the police, the SES and the community as a whole for working hard to find who committed this horrific act against an innocent young woman.
"My Brighteyes. My Toyah."
Mr Cordingley said in the post that he had recorded a public appeal with the police that was due to be shown on TV this week, but police had decided not to run it due to "the media undermining their investigation".
"This is very disappointing but I completely understand their reasoning once it was explained to me," he wrote.
When asked for comment, Queensland police would only say the homicide investigation was continuing.
