The Man City player 'holding up' Harry Maguire transfer

Manchester City will only make a move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire once the future of current centre-back Nicolas Otamendi is resolved, reports say.

City are interested in Maguire as a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who left the club this summer, but a complication in the deal has arisen concerning Otamendi, according to reports.

Otamendi is currently representing Argentina in the Copa America, where they will face a Brazil side in the semi-finals consisting of City teammates Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and Fernandinho.

And the Metro suggest Otamendi is unsure if he will leave this summer, and City will not move for Maguire until that situation is resolved.

That would leave City in a difficult situation, as Otamendi would remain down the pecking order if he chose to stay and Maguire arrived, but should the Argentine decide to leave then Pep Guardiola might have to return to the transfer market for a fourth centre-back to replace him.

Meanwhile, the Mirror report that City will honour David Silva's contribution to the club by awarding him the captain's armband for his final season at the Etihad.

Silva announced he will leave at the end of the 2019/20 season after ten years at the club, and the report says he will take the armband during that time to mark his contribution and give him the send off he deserves.
