Dropping your car off at the dealership is already stressful enough. But one woman says hers keeps coming back with a lot less gas than she left it with—so she decided to start documenting it.
Is Her BMW Dealer Draining Gas?
In a TikTok with around 2,200 views, content creator Ryelee Steiling (@ryeleejase) films herself driving to a BMW dealership. She says she’s tired of picking up her car only to find the tank empty.
"I'm dropping my car off at BMW. I'm not gonna lie, I am scared of what they're gonna say," she says. She's there because her tires feel out of alignment, but the alignment isn't really what's on her mind.
"Every single time I leave here, I'm on [expletive] empty, and I don't know how," she says. "I'm documenting how much gas I have. Let's go see what they say."
The video ends there, so it's unclear what went down after.
This Isn't The First Time
Steiling isn't alone in her suspicions. Dashcams have caught dealership employees misusing customers' vehicles on multiple occasions.
In 2019, Jalopnik reported on a New Jersey man who brought his 2016 Ford Mustang GT in for an alignment, only to review his dashcam footage later and find mechanics had taken it for a joyride, joking about how fast they were going and admitting to burning the clutch.
The dealership offered him a full $380 refund for the alignment work in exchange for taking down the video.
The Drive covered a similar situation involving a 2016 Corvette Z06 dropped off at a North Carolina Chevy dealership for a fuel injector replacement. The dashcam caught two employees taking it for a spin and picking up a passenger to show off how fast the car was. The dealership offered the owner a refund, which was still pending at the time of publication.
Commenters React
“If you’re getting a front end alignment there definitely gonna test drive it before and after which is acceptable but definitely shouldn’t take it out for a lunch break 30 min down the road or guys night out,” a top comment read.
“U should write down mileage not gas,” a person said.
“I would take a picture of the odometer to see how many miles you have when you park it,” another suggested.
