Staff at Greggs factory test positive for coronavirus

An outbreak of coronavirus has been recorded among the 300-strong workforce in a Greggs bakery factory.

It's understood production at the Tyneside factory has been shut down after 'a number of colleagues' tested positive for the deadly virus.

A Greggs spokesperson told Sky News: "Following a small number of colleagues having tested positive for Covid-19 at our Balliol manufacturing facility, we have taken the decision to temporarily stop production as a precautionary measure to keep our teams as safe as possible."

Despite production being temporarily halted, bosses have assured customers they have large reserves, which will keep their bakeries running.

It's believed the chain is now working with local public health teams to minimise the impact on the wider community.
