RB Leipzig sporting director gives Timo Werner transfer update amid Manchester United links

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has given an update on the future of star striker Timo Werner amid speculation linking him with a transfer to Manchester United .

Werner has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's top forwards and is spearheading the club's title challenge this season.

He scored a hat-trick and registered three assists during the 8-0 victory against Mainz at the weekend, taking his tally for the season to 13 goals in 15 appearances, leading to United fans calling for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign him.

The 23-year-old has long been tipped for a switch to England, with both Liverpool and Manchester United linked with the forward.

Bayern Munich were favourites for his signature during the summer but the move failed to materialise and Werner ultimately signed a new contract with his current employers; which included a £27million release clause as per Kicker .

The contract runs until 2023 and Krosche has revealed Leipzig have no intention of parting ways with the forward.

"Timo just extended his contract with us recently, and we're not thinking about letting him go at all," he told Bild.

Solskjaer has confirmed the club will be looking to bolster their options in the final third during the upcoming January transfer window.

He said: "Of course, we let Alexis [Sanchez] and Romelu [Lukaku] go. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that it's [a] forward that, next time we're going to recruit, we're looking for some creativity and goals."
