Rangers line-up predicted vs Standard Liege as Steven Gerrard faces midfield decision

It's amazing what a few absences can do to a squad.

Injuries and Covid-19 have caused some issues for Steven Gerrard with a host of players struggling or missing.

Add in the likes of Jermain Defoe who isn't in the European squad and all of a sudden the squad starts to look a bit stretched.

Filip Helander and Nathan Patterson are out, Ryan Jack is a major doubt and Joe Aribo and Brandon Barker are touch and go.

But Gerrard still has plenty of big decisions to make about his Rangers team ahead of Thursday night's game against Standard Liege in the Europa League.

It's a game that could decide qualification for the last 32 of the Europa League if Rangers can get a win, or if they draw and Lech Poznan fail to beat Benfica.

Gerrard has promised a strong team against Poznan in Poland next week no matter what, but would like to have the opportunity to rest one or two who play every week.

On Thursday night, much of the team is likely to be able to pick itself.

Allan McGregor will return in goals, with the usual back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Borna Barisic.

The midfield is the only place where there might be decisions to make. If Aribo is fit, he's generally one of the first names on the team sheet.

But with his knock, Gerrard might stick with the trio of Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield that played against Benfica last week.

Up front, it's most likely to be a front three of Kemar Roofe, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.
