Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin said on Friday that Attorney General Pam Bondi "pressured" some 1,000 FBI personnel to go through the Epstein files and flag any mentions of President Donald Trump.
Durbin made the claim when sending letters to Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, requesting more information about the handling of the files.
Durbin said his office received information about Bondi pressuring "the FBI to put approximately 1,000 personnel in its Information Management Division" on 24-hour shifts to review the files in order to release files as soon as possible. However, they were also allegedly instructed to "flag" records "in which president Trump was mentioned."
Durbin then asked Bondi, Patel and Bongino if they personally reviewed all files and questioned why FBI personnel were asked to flag mentions of Trump.
"Is there a log of the records mentioning President Trump? If yes, please transmit a copy of the committee and the OIG," reads a passage of his letter, a reference to the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Office of the Inspector General.
The Trump administration announced its prepared to unseal another collection of filesin related to Epstein. "Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony subject to court approval. This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!" the president wrote on Thursday night.
Bondi responded the same night, saying the Department of Justice is "ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts."
Trump and Bondi's announcements came just hours after a bombshell report revealed that Trump had written Epstein a note for his 50th birthday, which included a suggestive drawing and a friendly letter, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Following the publishing of the article, Trump threatened to sue the publication and railed after its owner Rupert Murdoch, who had reportedly promised to "take care of" the article but couldn't do it in the end.
The Trump administration has faced continued pressure from MAGA supporters and Democrats alike after the Department of Justice released hours of footage allegedly depicting the outside of Epstein's cell, attempting to show that he committed suicide.
Durbin also raised questions about reports claiming that the footage was edited even though it was presented as "fully raw." "Public skepticism of the government's transparency in this matter has been needlessly increased due to your release of surveillance video from outside of Jefrey Epstein's cell," he added.
