Prolific criminal forced to pay back £194 after trying to steal fish

A prolific criminal has been fined almost £200 after trying to steal fish from a park on two separate occasions.

Warren Peter Wright, 49, of Albert Road, Southport, unlawfully attempted to take fish from the lake at Hesketh Park on March 21 and March 24 of this year.

Wright was jailed for three years for his part in a conspiracy to supply drugs after a undercover operation in October 2016.

He was put back behind bars in December 2017, after stealing a pensioner's wallet.

Wright was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.

A 75-year-old man was pickpocketed on London Street in Southport on December 13, 2017, and Wright was arrested later that day.

One of Southport's largest green spaces, Hesketh Park is known for its lake.

The park is a protected site and fishing is prohibited.

South Sefton Magistrates Court today fined Wright £194 for two counts of unlawfully taking or attempting to take or destroy fish.
