Poll suggests Americans are confused about the goal of Iran war

  • A recent CBS News/YouGov survey indicates that 68 per cent of Americans are confused about the Trump administration's objectives in its conflict with Iran, an increase from earlier in March.
  • The survey, conducted between 17 and 20 March, found that only 32 per cent of respondents felt the administration had clearly explained its goals, a decrease from 38 per cent previously.
  • Conflicting statements from the administration, including Trump's shifting explanations on war goals and timelines, have contributed to public and even Republican Senator Thom Tillis's confusion.
  • Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's written statement indicated Iran was not rebuilding damaged nuclear facilities, questioning the stated threat.
  • A majority of Americans prioritise a swift end to the conflict and do not consider changing Iran's leadership to be pro-US as important, with many expecting the war to last months or even years.
