it wouldn’t be a Kardashian Christmas without at least one controversy involving fur — only this time, it’s actually still attached to live animals.
Kim Kardashian has found herself in PETA’s furry line of fire after revealing that each of her four children received a puppy under the tree this year. Yep — four kids, four dogs.
The reality star, 45, shared a series of Instagram Stories over the holidays showing off the family’s new additions: four teeny-tiny Pomeranian puppies captioned simply, “Each kid got a puppy”.

It didn’t take long for PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk to respond, issuing a statement to PEOPLE that was as direct as it was scathing.
“Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” Newkirk said.
She added that Kim — and her sister Khloé Kardashian, who also gifted her kids a puppy for Christmas — could “try to make some amends” by getting their kids involved in helping animals rather than just unboxing them.

“[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis,” Newkirk told PEOPLE.
While Kim hasn’t responded publicly, plenty of people online were quick to question the decision to gift live animals to children. Commenters pointed out that while the Kardashian kids might have nannies, trainers, and someone to refill the water bowls, pets aren’t stocking fillers — they’re lifelong commitments.
It’s also not the first time Kim’s pet parenting has come under scrutiny. Fans might remember the 2022 TikTok video where North West showed off the family dogs chilling in what looked suspiciously like a garage — a clip that didn’t exactly scream “pet palace”.

To be fair, the KarJenners are famously animal lovers. Kim already has a few Pomeranians in her lineup — including Sushi and Sake — plus the family’s bearded dragon, Speed, who once wore a custom Skims hoodie because, of course.
Still, as PETA’s statement makes clear, the organisation would very much prefer the family’s next pet moment involve an adoption drive instead of an unboxing video.
