The fate of Glasgow's Game of Thrones character has been confirmed

After an epic final episode, Game of Thrones has drawn to an end, completing eight thrilling seasons on our screens.

For those of us from Glasgow , though, the last episode had a particular significance, as we rooted for the last surviving character portrayed by a Glaswegian actor.

Podrick Payne, played by Daniel Portman, is the only character played by an actor from Glasgow to have survived all the way until the beginning of the last ever episode of the show, meaning fans watched on with hope that he could survive.

Happily, he made it to the very end of the episode and completed one of the more satisfying character arcs of anyone in the final season.

Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick, was born in Glasgow and grew up in Strathbungo. He attended Shawlands Academy, for whom he played rugby and became Head Boy.

Portman’s acting career began at the age of 16 and includes a credit in River City , something all good Glasgow actors have. In 2011 he joined the cast of the second season of Game of Thrones, a role he has continued to enjoy.

Having served as a squire and friend to major characters in the show, Podrick Payne started the final episode of the season in Winterfell with Lady Brienne. Following the Battle of King’s Landing, Podrick was knighted and made a member of the highly regarded Kingsguard.

Well done Podrick, we’re proud of you. It’s always nice to see a Glasgow lad make it to the top.
