MPHRC seeks report on suicide due to alleged police atrocities

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) took cognisance of an incident wherein a man consumed poison, allegedly due to police atrocities and later died while undergoing treatment. The commission called for a detailed report of the incident from the Sagar SP within four weeks.

The commission stated that the deceased youth levelled serious charges on the police in his dying declaration. He also talked to the media before his death and alleged cops harassed him.

It was also learnt that the deceased youth levelled allegations against the Jaruakheda police of the district and had also lodged a complaint at the CM Helpline. His father alleged that his son was implicated in a false police complaint.

The commission stated that the matter came to light after the youth made a complaint at the CM helpline against police atrocities. When he was again called by police, he consumed celphos pills in the fear that he would be tortured again.
