Moby cancels Manchester event and other public appearances

Moby has scrapped his upcoming Manchester appearance and all other public dates in the wake of criticism over claims made about Natalie Portman.

The musician's website carried a message which said 'all upcoming public appearances for the foreseeable future' were cancelled, the Press Association reports.

This includes a series of UK events.

He was due to appear at the Hay Festival in Wales on June 1, along with events at the Manchester Literature Festival, Dublin's Liberty Hall and Earth London to promote his book.

The Manchester appearance on June 5 was fully booked, according to the Manchester Lit Festival website, but a notice has since appeared saying 'CANCELLED'.

The 53-year-old came under fire over claims he made in his new memoir Then It Fell Apart, that he met actress Portman when she was 20 and they briefly dated.

The actress, now 37, gave a different account of their relationship, telling Harper's Bazaar UK online that 'there are many factual errors and inventions' in his writing.

She said she remembered a 'much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school'.
Moby initially fired back at her comments, saying that he was 'confused' at her denial over a relationship with him, insisting that they did date.
In an Instagram post titled 'last post' on Tuesday, Moby apologised and suggested he planned to take time away from the limelight.
He wrote: "I want to apologise again, and to say clearly that all of this has been my own fault.
"I am the one who released the book without showing it to the people I wrote about. I'm the one who posted defensively and arrogantly. I'm the one who behaved inconsiderately and disrespectfully, both in 2019 and in 1999.
"There is obviously no one else to blame but me. Thank you and I'm sorry."
Representatives of Moby have been contacted for comment by the Press Association.
A message posted on the Manchester Literature Festival website read on Wednesday:

"PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

"Moby is cancelling all upcoming public appearances for the foreseeable future. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Tickets holders for this event should contact Quaytickets' after-sales customer service team on 03333 202 894, or email info@quaytickets.com with their name and order number, to arrange refunds."
