Migrant Advocates Threaten With a Two-Day Strike In California To Protest Widespread Raids: 'For The Soul Of The Country'

Migrant advocates are threatening to conduct a two-day strike in California to protest widespread immigration raids by the Trump administration. The strike is planned for the end of the week, with the public being asked to boycott fruits, vegetable, meat and poultry products.

Border Report quoted Flor Martinez, who organized a rally in downtown Los Angeles to call for the strike, saying the demonstration wouldn't be "just for us," but also "for the soul of this country."

Martinez put the focus on the amount of migrants working in the state's farm industry, claiming they are largely responsible for the fact that 80% of all fruits and nuts are grown in the state, the figure being 60% for vegetables and 90% for grapes.

"Who feeds your children? Will you stand with the people behind your food? Because a nation that eats from exploited hands is a nation in crisis," she added.

Another speaker is quoted saying "it's not just unsafe with the conditions they have to go through to pick the fruits and vegetable in the fields, now they have to have fear over their heads every day, whether for them or a loved one or someone they're working with right next to them."

One of the latest raids took place last Thursday at Glass House Farms, a licensed cannabis facility in Camarillo, prompting a day-long standoff with hundreds of protesters.

The operation— one of two simultaneous raids along another one in Carpinteria —unfolded as federal agents in tactical gear blocked roads, fired crowd-control munitions, and deployed gas canisters.

Protesters, family members, and former employees gathered outside the facility, with some being hit by projectiles or hospitalized due to exposure to gas. According to the Ventura County Fire Department, at least five individuals were transported to area hospitals, with others treated on site.

A witness interviewed by Telemundo, who asked not to be named, described the scene: "They were all armed. They had long guns. Helmets and everything. They even had gas tanks. They came as if they were going to war. And they told us not to say anything, that we shouldn't tell anyone afterwards that they were mistreating us. But I'm not going to stay silent"

Federal authorities added that 10 undocumented minors were found working at the Camarillo facility, eight of whom were unaccompanied. The farm is now under investigation for potential child labor violations, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott.

Last Wednesday, four people were arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly attempting to interfere with an immigration enforcement raid in Van Nuys. USBP Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino said the people used improvised devices in order to "impede & obstruct our efforts" by disabling patrol vehicles.
