A California man recorded a tense and profane exchange in a local dealership. Now he’s asking others to boycott the business.
TikTok creator Lucky Dad (@lucky.dad.1982) posted footage of the incident last week. He says he's at Platinum Sales & Services in Norco, California.
It seems that Lucky Dad went to the dealership to obtain some kind of paperwork and was asked to leave by what appeared to be multiple employees or people associated with the establishment. That's when he started recording the interaction.
The post is captioned, "A simple visit to a dealership for paperwork goes terribly south."
His video has 3.2 million views as of this writing.
What Happened At the Dealership?
The video shows Lucky Dad being asked to leave by a woman and two men. The younger of the two men then realizes Lucky Dad is recording him and asks him to stop.
The situation quickly escalates into a loud altercation. At one point, Lucky Dad says, "I’m being escorted out of the building because they refuse to give me my payment information."
The three men exchange curse words, with the younger dealership employee escalating to verbal threats, a racial slur, and eventually physical intervention. It’s not clear exactly what happens, as the video ends shortly after Lucky Dad’s phone falls to the ground.
In a follow-up video posted the next day, Lucky Dad alleges that the incident began when he asked for "documentation of payoff for a traded-in vehicle." He shows a police vehicle in the parking lot behind him.
In another series of follow-up videos, Lucky Dad indicates that he is planning to protest the establishment this coming weekend. He also asks viewers to boycott the business. Comments are turned off on the Platinum Sales & Services TikTok account he tags in his video. (The business has also been referred to as Platinum Auto Sales.)
Man's Allegations Against Dealership Spark Outrage
In the video's comments, viewers overwhelmingly expressed support for Lucky Dad. Some indicated they left negative reviews on the dealership’s Yelp and Google pages.
"I see the disappointment and pain in your face and I am so sorry this happened to you," wrote one person.
"Please tell me you’re pressing charges," a second person said.
"I’ve left a negative review on Platinum Sales & Services," wrote a third person. "Completely unprofessional."
Several urged him to press charges and/or file a civil suit.
Many felt that Lucky Dad had a solid case. "Congratulations on your new car lot sir," one wrote. Agreed a second, "Congrats on your new dealership. What you gonna name it?"
He also received praise for remaining calm even as the situation escalated, "You’re a real one for regulating your emotions and having emotional intelligence. Literal king behavior."
The Platinum Sales & Services Google page currently has a 4.9-star rating. Its Yelp ranking, as one commenter noted, is lower, at 3.6 stars as of this writing. Reviews are currently turned off on the business’s Yelp page. A notification on the page reads, "This business is being monitored by Yelp's Support team for content related to media reports."
A 1-star review from February, well before this incident, alleges that a verbal deal was not honored. "I do not recommend this dealership," the Yelp reviewer wrote. "If this is how they handle a deal before paperwork is signed, I can only imagine what happens afterward."
