Macron and Starmer hold key summit on reopening the Strait of Hormuz

  • Donald Trump has responded by blockading Iran’s oil ports in an effort to stem Tehran’s fossil fuel income.
  • Sir Keir is expected to declare the unconditional and immediate reopening of the strait a "global responsibility" and commit to a multinational initiative to protect freedom of navigation.
  • The meeting, involving around 40 countries and the International Maritime Organisation, will focus on supporting the US-Iranian ceasefire and planning a joint defensive mission to ensure the strait remains open.
