Liverpool fans say same thing about Odsonne Edouard as Crystal Palace lay down marker

Crystal Palace continued their positive start to the season on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

With just one defeat at the hands of Chelsea on matchday one, things couldn't have gone much better for new manager Patrick Vieira.

Spurs went down to 10 men on 58 minutes and Wilfred Zaha scored from the spot just under 20 minutes later, but it was arguably debutant Odsonne Edouard that stole the show.

The striker became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score more than once as a substitute on their debut, as he found the back of the net just 27 seconds after he came on.

10 minutes later, he was on the scoresheet again as Palace earned their first victory of the campaign.

Edouard moved to Selhurst Park in a deadline day move, for a fee believed to be around £14m, that could rise to £18.5m.

The 23-year-old had been linked to a number of Premier League clubs before he made the move to Palace, including Liverpool, Leicester, Everton, Arsenal and Brighton.

Now, Liverpool supporters feel they have missed out on a bargain as he scored a brace in what was the dream debut for his new club.

"What a debut by Edouard he’s gonna be class," one supporter shared on social media.

Another said: "I feel jealous of Palace, that's the kind of striker I'd love at Liverpool."

One tweeted: "Another day another player that Liverpool should’ve went for Edouard looks insane the board need to take a good look at themselves."

Edouard spent three years in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic following his move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018.

He scored 86 goals in almost 180 appearances for the club, 22 of those were scored last season.

The France international is already showing signs he'll continue that form this season in the Premier League and may have earned himself a starting spot against Liverpool next weekend.

The Reds welcome Vieira's side to Anfield next Saturday and they've put down a marker with an impressive display against Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Liverpool prepare to face Leeds United on Sunday at Elland Road before their first Champions League group stage match against AC Milan on Wednesday night.
