Leo Varadkar 'disgusted' by campaign against Quinn Industrial Holdings bosses

Leo Varadkar told a boss at Quinn Industrial Holdings of his “disgust” at the campaign waged against them.

John McCartin revealed to the Irish Mirror last night he “felt frustration” from the Taoiseach when they spoke twice over the phone last week.

And he revealed how directors at Sean Quinn’s firm are at “an absolute loss” over why no one has been questioned over the near-fatal assault on their colleague Kevin Lunney.

A “final” death threat was made against the five directors last Wednesday.

This came six weeks after the brutal abduction of Mr Lunney, who had his leg broken, was doused in bleach and dumped at the roadside.

Mr McCartin, a former Fine Gael councillor, said: “The Taoiseach, when he called, was expressing first his disgust.

“I felt not only the Taoiseach’s sympathy, not only his support but his frustration on the call.”

When asked how much the State needs to pay to boost the garda presence in the area, Mr McCartin said: “I don’t think it needs to be measured in pounds, shillings and pence.

“It needs to be measured in resolve.

“Did gardai step in and say to people inciting violence, people who are threatening and defaming us?

“At no point did gardai ever knock on their doors and ask them to account for their actions.”
