The Bachelor star Laura Byrne has copped criticism from followers after celebrating Sydney Sweeney visiting her jewellery store and wearing some of its pieces.
Sweeney is currently in Australia to film an upcoming movie titled Gundam, and was spotted out and about in Sydney including for a Harbour Bridge Climb, an AFL game, and at ToniMay — the Bondi jewellery store founded by Byrne.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Byrne said she had “just found out that Sydney Sweeney was in our Bondi store”, adding that she was “hyperventilating” because the actress bought two pieces of jewellery.
“[Sweeney] is now a ToniMay customer,” Byrne wrote in the caption. “I will never be ok again!!”.

In follow-up posts on her Instagram Stories, Byrne confirmed Sweeney had worn one of ToniMay’s rings to the AFL match between the Sydney Swans and the Melbourne Football Club at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, May 3.
“Just a Hollywood star who walked into our Bondi store and wanted to support an Aussie label,” Byrne wrote alongside a snap of Sweeney wearing the ring.

While some commenters also celebrated the update in the comments section of Byrne’s post, others reminded her of Sweeney’s past controversies, including her association and rumoured support of US President Donald Trump.
In 2022, Sweeney copped backlash after sharing photos of relatives wearing Make America Great Again merchandise.
Last year, the Euphoria star was again drawn into Trump’s orbit when he praised her controversial American Eagle Jeans ad after discovering she was reportedly registered as a Republican voter.
Some of Byrne’s followers referenced these scandals when reacting to her post of Sweeney wearing her jewellery.
“Love you, but [Sweeney is] a right wing Trump lover. Not excited,” one follower claimed, while another wrote that the actress will “recommend you to all her MAGA friends!”. A third user said Sweeney is “not the type of person you want to promote or be excited about”.

Byrne has been vocal about her opposition to Trump in the past, reportedly sharing social media posts lamenting his presidential reelection back in 2024.
PEDESTRIAN.TV has reached out to Byrne for comment.
Sweeney, meanwhile, has never explicitly confirmed whether she supports Trump, saying earlier this year that she has “never been here to talk about politics”.
“I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of,” Sweeney told Cosmopolitan.
“I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it’s somebody else assigning something to me, and I can’t control that.”
Sweeney last visited Australia in 2023 to film the rom-com Anyone But You.
