Latest update on exciting plans for £180m Leeds city centre neighbourhood

There are ambitious plans to create a five-acre neighbourhood in Leeds city centre with more than 780 homes.

Get Living PLC, the firm that converted the London 2012 Athletes' Village into family homes, has drawn up plans to build the £180m neighbourhood in Globe Road, right by the River Aire.

The company applied to Leeds City Council for planning permission in May 2019 and was aiming to begin construction later that year, but it is still waiting for a decision.

If approved, eight apartment blocks containing 783 homes for rent would be built and each building would be linked by public greenspaces.

Under the current plans, the tallest building would be 23 storeys.

There would be one, two and three bedroom apartments, family town houses with private gardens, shops and a gym.

There are also plans to build a pavilion on the waterfront, to the east of the site, that contains offices and a ground-floor restaurant.

The exciting project is part of the South Bank regeneration.

A series of developments are planned south of the River Aire as part of the massive scheme which aims to double the size of Leeds city centre.
